LEVITICUS
17:11 “FOR THE LIFE OF THE FLESH IS IN THE
BLOOD: AND I HAVE GIVEN IT
TO YOU UPON THE ALTAR TO MAKE AN ATONEMENT FOR YOUR
SOULS: FOR IT IS THE BLOOD
THAT MAKETH AN ATONEMENT FOR THE SOUL.”
A “scapegoat” is someone who is made to take the blame
for the actions of others. In the old testament, God
dealt with the sins of the Israelites in two ways. Once
a year on the “Day of Atonement” the priest would take
two goats, the first of which would be sacrificed on the
altar. The second goat (the scapegoat) would be
confessed over for the sins of the people and sent out
into the wilderness so as to take the guilt away.
ISAIAH 53:6 says “ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY; WE
HAVE TURNED, EVERY ONE, TO HIS OWN WAY; AND THE LORD HAS
LAID ON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL.”
ISAIAH 53:11 says “HE SHALL SEE THE LABOR OF HIS SOUL,
AND BE SATISFIED. BY HIS KNOWLEDGE MY RIGHTEOUS SERVANT
SHALL JUSTIFY MANY, FOR HE SHALL BEAR THEIR INIQUITIES.”
ISAIAH 53:12 says “HE POURED OUT HIS SOUL UNTO DEATH,
AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH THE TRANSGRESSORS, AND HE BORE
THE SIN OF MANY, AND MADE INTERCESSION FOR THE
TRANGRESSORS.”
Jesus Christ's death replaced this system once and for
all. We can have our sins forgiven and guilt removed by
placing our trust in Christ our Lord. Jesus said
“FOR THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW
TESTAMENT, WHICH IS SHED FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF
SINS" MATT 26:28 Ref LEVITICUS 17:11.
Because the life of the flesh is in the
blood, Jesus is saying that
we are to accept His shed blood
for our sins in faith and then we receive life.
THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD!
It is the blood that makes
an atonement for the soul. The
blood of Christ is the only thing that can wash
away sin. There is nothing offensive about the
blood; the offence is in
the sin.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow...That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know, Nothing but
the blood of Jesus.
