Last Wednesday
evening at church Mary Connor was showing me what her
child, Rafe had given her earlier that day. He came up
to her and held out his hand to give her something. She
looked down as he laid a baby tooth in her hand.
This reminded me of when I used to work at Stewart
Jewelry Company in Conover, NC before Tim and I were
married. People would come in and I would hold out my
hand. Usually they would hand me their rings that needed
cleaning, a knotted up chain or maybe a watch that
needed a battery.
I also remember holding out my hand reluctantly to have
someone drop gold teeth into my palm! In my head, I
wanted to scream! They would smile oh so proudly and
say, "I finally went and got all my teeth pulled and I
wanna melt these down and make me a ring!"
And then there was the wealthy lady that insisted she
wore a size 5 ring even though her knuckles had swollen
to an 8. She would walk in wearing the small glass door
knob on her finger and pull and tug to try and remove
it. And yes, then she would do the un-thinkable! She
would LICK HER WHOLE FINGER! She would put her old,
nasty spit all over that ring then proudly hand it to me
to clean. I wonder what my face looked like...I'm sure
it was like EWWWW!
Sometimes we open our hands, our hearts or our minds and
we have no idea what we are going to get. With the world
changing so quickly, I am sure we Christians are going
to get more and more questions from non-believers. So to
these people, my reply is this: I would rather live my
life as if there is a God and die to find out there
isn't, than live my life like there isn't and die to
find out there is.
And remember this, Jesus opened his hands to receive the
nails, for our sins...so that we might be forgiven.
Blessings to you and yours, :) Sandy
I can
guarantee this truth: Those who listen to what I say and
believe in the one who sent me will have eternal life.
They won't be judged because they have already passed
from death to life.
