ABOUT OUR CHURCH
Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, formed in 1905, is named for the famous circuit riding preacher, Francis Asbury, who explored the French Broad River Valley of Western North Carolina, preaching and teaching.
He sought out small house churches and communities of believers who followed a “method” of prayer, worship, visitation and service in the pattern of small groups called “Wesley Classes” started by John and Charles Wesley in England in the 1700’s. There are descendants of those first “Methodists” who heard Francis Asbury preach in our church even today!
FAUMC is a healthy, vibrant place to Praise God, Grow Spiritually, and Reach Neighbors with the Good News of Jesus. Our Mission Statement is based upon 1 Corinthians 3:1-11 in which the Apostle Paul is asking about who is the most important disciple.
He sees people taking sides with him or with another apostle named Apollos. Paul reminds Christians that there is no “side” and “no best disciple,” there is no hierarchy in relationship to Christ.
We are all servants, carrying out our servant assignment. Someone plants, someone else waters, but it is always God who brings the growth.
What makes tasks of ministry worth doing is the God we are serving. What makes serving worthwhile is our foundation, and reason for being, Jesus Christ.
Our Mission Statement means that each person at Francis Asbury Church is called to servant ministry, to small and/or large opportunities to make God’s Kingdom come on earth.
We discern together Jesus’ call and God’s claim on our life as Beloved Children.
